The Ultimate Guide to Artificial Turf Flooring

Considering adding artificial turf flooring to your gym facility? Wondering why you should add turf, or where to start?

Ideally, your members are in your club every day, right? A great way to keep them engaged and motivated is to break up the monotony. Two hours into the same workout, looking at the same aesthetic across the room isn’t exactly invigorating. Adding indoor artificial turf flooring to your club is a way to break up the norm and hop onto the growing trend in functional fitness, providing more opportunities for variety when it comes to training.

We’ve put together a guide to help you incorporate indoor sports turf into your fitness club.

Ultimate Guide to Artificial Gym Turf Flooring

Why incorporate indoor turf in your facility?

Artificial turf flooring allows you to transform a workout, bringing the outside in without worrying about Mother Nature.

Artificial turf for gyms is a durable and long-lasting option that fits a number of needs. It’s often used for functional fitness training, a type of training that continues to grow in popularity. Beyond functional training, exercise turf’s soft padding works in everything from yoga to strength training. Maybe you have a member that wants to run their first marathon come spring—but you live in the Northeast, which isn’t exactly known for its ideal running conditions November – February. Many runners and athletes practice speedwork on grass because of the lower impact. Gym turf makes a great surface for speed and agility training as its made to absorb impact, helping to prevent athletic injuries.

Whether you work out at a health club or want to improve your home gym, this type of flooring can be just the ticket you need to up your fitness game.

Offering a sleek design and versatile use, artificial turf flooring has become a popular solution in many studios and workout facilities. Workout turf is easy to clean, saving owners maintenance costs.

As turf floor covering is a sound absorber, weight lifting on artificial grass minimizes the consistent noise you’ll find in a gym. Oh, and no need to worry about dinged up floors!

Zogics Gym Turf Flooring

Zogics Gym Turf Flooring is a dense, non-rubber infill surface made with the highest quality Nylon and Soft Pro fibers—no sand or rubber infill here. Crossfit turf is ideal for exercises involving dragging, intense friction, and heavy weights. That's because gym grass is thermal and impact resistant. What does that mean for you? Our artificial grass for gyms lasts longer due to a decrease in abrasions, cracking and wear and tear.

Our indoor sports turf can be installed both indoors and outdoors, and is available in a variety of colors. Game lines and training guides are also popular on training turf to help designate certain areas (think agility ladders, distance tick marks, etc.). Our custom training and game lines are true color turf, not painted, so you don't have to worry about them fading over time.

What to look for in artificial turf flooring

So, we’ve convinced you that you should bring sports turf into your facility. Now what? The most important factors to consider are the floor turf’s face weight, pile height, and thickness.

Face Weight

Artificial grass has a face weight, which is the amount of material used in the turf per square yard. This is one of the most important factors when choosing the right gym turf. The higher the face weight, the more durable the product. So, it stands to reason that the more traffic this section will see, the higher the face weight should be.

Thickness

Thickness will determine your floor’s functionality—too high, and you’re going to make the place more prone to trips and injuries. After all, you don’t want to suddenly go from flat, rubber flooring to an uneven surface. Additionally, a lower turf allows a smoother surface for athletes who are sled training.

Turf Installation

Installing turf is pretty simple. You take your clean, dry surface and lay your turf. Apply your adhesive and then a bead of seam sealer to all seams. You will need a weighted roller, and a couple of days traffic-free so the adhesive can properly dry. But don’t worry—we’ll be providing you with an in-depth instruction guide. And, as always, our customer service team is always available to troubleshoot with you.
