1% For the Planet Member

OK, not THAT one percent. Although I'm pretty sure we've all daydreamed about what it would be like to have us some Warren Buffett money. Heck, I would even settle for some Jimmy Buffett money… actually I think I might prefer the latter. Warren seems to have an awful lot on his plate buying corporations and helping to craft economic policy…serve me a cheeseburger in paradise with some tequila any day…I guess maybe that’s why I’m not in the 1% (yet.)

No, I’m talking 1% For the Planet (or 1FTP for those of us in the planet saving business.)

1% For The Planet was started in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, owner of Blue Ribbon Flies, and exists to build and support an alliance of businesses financially committed to creating a healthy planet. Each business that signs up with 1% FTP commits to donating 1% of their total yearly sales to environmental groups that have been approved by 1% For The Planet.

We’ve been a member since our founding in 2006 and it’s been one of the greatest decisions we've made as a business. As a company, we all agree investing in our community and environment is an important part of who we are and a responsibility we all share. We take a lot of pride knowing that every time we make a sale, we give something back.

Consider it a commission for Mother Nature.

So where does our 1% go? A few places. We’re located in Berkshire County in Western Massachusetts and there are some wonderful groups here that do great work protecting our natural resources. One is the Trustees of Reservations, who protect and maintain over 25,000 acres of parks, wildlife and scenic sites all across Massachusetts. The other is the Berkshire National Resource Council, who work to protect the Berkshire farms, forests, streams and ridgelines that give us clean water, fresh air, local produce, healthy wildlife and outstanding recreational opportunities.

We regularly run, ski, hike and mountain bike throughout the properties these groups help protect, so these aren’t just donations, they're investments in the community we love.

We encourage everyone to find a way to support the environment through either donating their time or money. If you’re buying your biodegradable gym wipes, fragrance-free hand sanitizers, disinfectant concentrates, eco-friendly air fresheners, LEED credit qualifying hand dryers, or any of your other products from Zogics, you’re already helping to do your part!
